Vernon was incorporated in October 1808. The land for Vernon was taken from Bolton. The city of Rockville was incorporated in January 1889. The Town of Vernon and the City of Rockville were consolidated on July 1, 1965.
First Settlers
The area that makes up the town of Vernon was first settled by families from
East Windsor, CT in 1716. It was originally a part of East Windsor and
Bolton.
Incorporation
In 1808 the town of Vernon was set off from the town of Bolton, by an act of
the general assembly of the state of Connecticut held at New Haven. On that
second Thursday of October it was incorporated into a town by itself.
First Town Meeting
The first meeting of the voters of the town of Vernon was held on the third
Monday of November, 1808.
