Record says that: Isaac was born in Washington CT and married Mary Gibson
19Feb 1778 in Washington. Resided in Wells, VT. Old family letter states that
Isaac took up land in Wells but returned to Washington because of Indians. He
was first married to Elizabeth How or Howe. Am looking for burials of Isaac in
1808 and/or wives Elizabet and Mary. Do you have cemetery listings for the area?
Or does some organization walk the cemeteries and make listings? Do you have
records of births attributed to the Goodsell family?
Quote from letter written by Nancy F. Glass:
In a very early day, my grandfather, Isaac Goodsell went to Wells, Vt. and
purchased land, settled on it, calculating to make it his future home; but soon
the Revolution came and when war broke out the depredations of the Indians were
fearful, so he returned to his old home, Washington, Conn. with his family. His
wife's name was Elizabeth Howe. In the year 1787 Daniel Goodsell, his son, came
to take possession of those lands.--- He moved with his wife and child to Wells
in the year 1788 where he resided for 16 yrs. They had a family of six children.
--- His mind then set for the west, he sold his possessions, moved to Honoeye
Falls, Ont. Co., NY.

I am researching my Wooster line of family tree. I have some initial
information from an old family bible that suggests that my grandfather David L.
Wooster (b. 1800, d. 1863) father's name was :
Isaac Wooster (b. 12/4/1768?...per family bible entry or christened on 2/4/1768
in Roxbury, CT.....per CT birth records... d. 4/4/1840) married to Hulda...Unknown
or possibly her maiden name was Hitchcock? (b. 10/4/1765 or 10/4/1766? in New
Milford, CT d. 3/12/1840.) Children of this marriage.......Olive Wooster
(b. 1790), Mabel Wooster (b. 1792) and David L. Wooster (b. 1800, d. 1863.)
I would appreciate any information on subject Isaac Wooster and wife Hulda.......especially
any additional marriage or birth information that is not already documented in
the Barbour Collection would corroborate the above initial information that was
gathered.
I have found that the 1790 Fed Census documents an Isaac Wooster residing in
Litchfield County and subsequent 1820 Fed Census that documents and Isaac
Wooster residing in Madison Co., NY. I have good sources that tie my Wooster
family into Madison Co in early-mid 1800s but would like to tie family source
info back eastward into CT.

I am seeking the names and birth dates of the children of LEAMING HAWKINS
BRADLEY and MARY SIMONS or Simonds. They married on 19 Sept 1830 in Litchfield,
Connecticut [Town Records in the Barbour Collection and books on Litchfield
genealogy]. He was the son of Horace and Hannah Bradley, and Horace was the son
of Capt. Aaron Bradley and his wife Loraine Abernathy Bradley. By the 1840
Census, the Leaming H. Bradley household in Washington, Litchfield County,
included two males 5 to 9 years old, one male 15 to 19 years old, one male 30 to
39 [himself, he was 32], one female under 5, and one female 20 to 29 [likely
Mary]. The family is not in the 1850 Census.
My research suggests that one of the young sons was my gg-grandfather who was
born in the 1831 to 1835 period. He came to Wisconsin in the 1850s. Everything
he reported in census records and marriage documents points to this family. I am
seeking a record -- a document, obituary or family group sheet -- to confirm
that these are my gg-grandfather's parents. Thanks in advance for any
assistance.

I am looking for sources or any information for Amos Hickok and his wife, Anna (Foote) Barker Hickok, and for detail on that part of Washington known as Footeville. According to the Hickok Genealogy by Charles Nelson Hickok, Amos Hickok was born February, 1779 and lived at Washington, Connecticut, "in that part that was known as Footeville", before moving to Charlotte, Vermont. Amos Hickok is asserted to be the son of Doctor Samuel Hicock, born at Woodbury, 17 September 1748/49, and Zelpha/Zilpha Scofield, and that Samuel Hicock at some point lived in Cooperstown, New York, (Research on my part makes me believe that Zelpha/Zilpha was not the mother of Amos Hickok and that if Samuel Hickok was the name of Amos Hickok's father, the Samuel Hickock in Cooperstown wasn't his father.) The 1800 U.S. Census has an Amos Hickcox in Washington, CT, and the 1810 U.S. Census has an Amos Hickkok in Charlotte, Vermont. The Hickok family Bible has his son, Nathaniel Hickok, being born in Washington, CT in 1800. The Hickok Genealogy has Amos Hickok marrying Anna (Foote) Barker, born 8 April 1774, widow of William Barker. According to the Foote Family by Abram W. Foote, Anna Foote was the daughter of Isaac Foote, and she was born 8 April 1774, first marrying William Barker, and after his death at Champlain, New York, at 24 years of age, marrying Amos Hickok, born 8 February 1774, son of Dr. Samuel Hickok, of Cooperstown, New York. Isaac Foote is shown in the Foote Family as having lived in Washington and marrying Anna Hurlbu(r)t of Washington. Both Isaac and Anna Foote, and Amos Hickok, died in Charlotte, Vermont.

Mallory /Mallery
My father's mother was Mabel Mary Hayden. Her father was Augustus Barnabas Hayden. His father George Walter Hayden of Westbrook married Nancy Mallory in Derby in 1853. Nancy was born in New Preston in 1834. Her father was Ithamar Mallory and mother Sarah M. Blake, daughter of Joseph Blake and Louisa Osborn Blake both buried in the New Preston cemetery. I got pictures of their headstones last August when I was in New Preston and Washington doing genealogy research. Unfortunately, the Gunn Library was closed that day.
I have been researching everyone named Mallory /Mallery that lived in Washington, New Preston, New Milford, Kent, and the surrounding area; trying to figure out who Ithamar's father is, and how he is related to Deacon Benjamin Mallory Jr. of Kent / New Preston; the father of the Litchfield Mallorys. Most of the other Mallorys I find evidence of in the New Preston area were probably Benjamin's sons; Caleb, Ithamar, Isaac, and Elijah. I believe one of these will prove to be Ithamar's grandfather or father. Other Mallorys that show up in the early Washington censuses are Truman, Jonathan, and Luther. Truman is buried with his wife Amy in New Preston, along with their son Henry and wife Jane Ford of New Milford. Also Henry & Jane's son Truman N. who died of wounds he received in the Civil War at Cold Harbor, VA in 1864.
Once I find a few more connections I should have a very good idea of who all the Mallorys were and how they are related. I probably know a bit more than most folks at this point, but I plan to know a lot more in the future. I am willing and anxious to share what I have. I am especially excited to be contacted by anyone else researching Litchfield county Mallorys, as they are undoubtedly a distant cousin that I would most like to meet! Thanks.

I am a Chatfield from Washington Connecticut and am looking for information on my family that lived in Washington Depot CT back in the 1920's through the 1950's. I was told that my grandfather Thurber R. Chatfield born April 22nd 1875 in Killingworth CT migrated to that area and lived on Bee Brook Road where he owned and operated a lumber company called Chatfield Lumber. He came to that area with his large family of nine children and that he also owned a grocery store and gas station with an apartment that he rented out over the store. After his wife died in 1927 he remarried a young 24-year-old Florence Tibbetts my grandmother. I know very little about her. I only know that she came from Fall River Massachusetts and that her birth date may have been August 1899. Florence and Thurber had two boys and a girl. I hope you can help point me in the right direction. I was told that the Chatfield’s home had burned down. If so, how did the fire start and when did it burn? I was told that my father's sister Hope Chatfield died June 1957 and was buried on the family’s property and that there was a headstone. If this is true where is she now that the land in a public park? Where Chatfield Lumber sat I believe that in the general area the new Washington Firehouse sits. Anyone having information that knows anything of this family you can contact me. Thank you.

in which I need to find the answer to a question about your town history. I have
searched very hard for this and am unable to find any information on the topic.
The question I am trying to find the answer to is this.
In the Judea Cemetery in Washington, Connecticut, lies the grave of a black
soldier in the continental army during the Revolution. His grave marker, erected
by the Sons of the American Revolution, states simply "in remembrance of
___________ and his colored patriots. This man, a slave at the time of the
rebellion, asked his owner to be allowed to serve in the struggle for
independence. His request granted, he fought throughout the revolution with a
black Connecticut regiment and was granted freeman status at the end of the war.
WHO IS THE NAME ON THE GRAVE.

I am seeking information concerning my great grandfather, John Miramble who, I believe, was originally from either Washington or Roxbury. He married my great grandmother - Anna Wagner (maiden name) - they divorced after having two children (Ruth, my grandmother and Virginia, my great aunt). Anna Wagner then married John Allen, and they lived their lives in Roxbury. Both are burried in the old cemetary in Roxbury. I remember hearing stories that John Miramble was from a old family in the Washington/Roxbury area, but little was known/said about him - likely due to the divorce. Additional helpful information includes the fact that Virginia Allen married Roland Johnson of Roxbury and they lived on a farm in that town. Both have passed on. They had a couple of children - Gertrude and Shirley, and I believe that Gertrude married a fellow named Deck, and that they and their children are still living in that area. Thanks in advance for any assistance you might lend to this search.

My name is Sandee Rexford. My great grandmother was Alice Viola (Benedict), married to Frank Matthew Hoffman Sr. Her mother was Ella/Ellen Gilmore, dau of either David or George (depends on what document one reads :) Gilmore and Rhoda. Ella/Ellen was 2nd wife of her father Eliakim Starr Benedict, b Danbury CT to George Benedict and Dorcas (Vail) on 29Feb1813. All of my g grandmothers records show her as being born in Warren, CT, but having gone through their VS office personally, and thru LDS, I see absolutely no reference to Alice being born in Warren. I have recently found that her mother and father lived in New Preston, which I had difficulty in locating....but have just found is a part of Washington. I have Eliakim Starr Benedict as being buried in Madison CT, but have no idea where, not able to locate. I have not been able to find anything on David/George and Rhoda Gilmore, nor just where Alice was born. I am suspecting in New Preston. her birth date was 9Oct1881. Eliakims first wife is listed as Sophia Carey, but have nothing to confirm this. they had 3 children, Francis, Sarah, and George Israel. I've located Sarah Frances Benedict in Madison, married to Leslie Carleton Graves. .. if this is indeed the same Sarah Frances, listed alternately as from Warren and New Preston. about 1861. Alice had a known sister Florence, and one elderly aunt remembers the name of a sister as Mary. Alice also had a brother Walter. I find no records for any of them in Warren. Ella/Ellen did file divorce proceedings against Eliakim, intolerance and physical abuse, but did not finalize the proceedings. I hope I have not confused anyone too very much.....this 'nest' is driving me around in many circles! Would anyone have a listing of VS in the New Preston section of Washington? Is there a New Preston VS office or would it be Washington? How would I contact them, phone, mail, email, etc. I just don't know how to begin to approach this area of Washington/New Preston. Do you know of a local kind soul who would assist? Sincerely appreciate any and all help.
