So, you have searched & searched and that ancestor refuses to come to the fore-front and remains as elusive as the day that he vanished from his last known location. You are beginning to think that he is an alien from another world...that he changed his name to escape the law...that he took off on a grand adventure and was never seen or heard from again. Well, maybe, but more than likely not. Someone...somewhere has just that clue that you need to continue your search...to scale that "brick wall" so that you may move ahead (or back as I call it in the world of genealogy.) So...let others help you in your quest for that "elusive one" by submitting a query.

Marriages from Church Records for:
New Preston Congregational Church (Washington)
Washington Congregational Church
My apologies.......the web site link for the above records has disappeared into cyberspace........ probably the same place where some of my ancestors reside :):)
If the web site
should reappear, I will re-establish the link.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused to any of my
visitors.
However, please note that I have reproduced the records from the Congregational Church....records prior to 1800. See Early Marriages here or at the top of the web page.
I have in my possession a well-worn copy of the History of Ancient Woodbury, Connecticut from the First Indian Deed in 1659 to 1854 including the towns of Washington, Southbury, Bethlem, Roxbury, and a part of Oxford and Middlebury. This book was written by William Cothren in 1854 and I would be happy to do limited lookups for anyone researching this area. The format of this volume is oodles of lists of political, religious, military, and fraternal entries (primarily just say that they were a member of such & such and are not indexed). The real meat of the volume is in the Family Histories, which are indexed and contain a vast amount of information. If interested, just e-mail me the particulars and I'll see what I can find. Prior to 1779, Washington was known as Judea. Some of the families that lived in early Washington were: Calhoun, Coe, Ferry, Guthrie & Clark.Dan Stevens has a partial history of the Calhoun family if others are interested.
