ROSSIER, editor of the "Enterprise," was born 02 December 1832 at Vesey [should be "Vevey," in the canton of Vaud], Switzerland. [Vaud, the second largest wine-producing area in Switzerland, became a canton in 1803, and is one of six cantons in the region known as Romandy, or French-speaking Switzerland.] He [E. B. ROSSIER] came to the United States in 1851, and settled in Madison County, Illinois, following farming there until 1858. He came to Centralia [Wood County], Wisconsin, and engaged in mercantile business for the first twelve years, and then became Cashier of the bank of Grand Rapids [Wood County, Wisconsin] in 1870, and so continued three years. [On opposite banks of the Wisconsin River, the communities of Centralia and Grand Rapids merged in 1900; renamed "Wisconsin Rapids" about 1920.] E. B. ROSSIER was Superintendent of construction [in 1873] of the Wisconsin Valley Railroad [the Wisconsin Valley Division of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway], and for the past two years editor and publisher of the "Enterprise," a Greenback paper, and is also a member of the law firm of Rossier & Baker [at one time Baker, Rossier and Hayden? The "Enterprise," founded in 1878 by E. B. ROSSIER, was the only paper in Centralia. It was published weekly from 1879 [first issue on 21 May 1879] to 1887, then merged with the Grand Rapids "Tribune" to form the Centralia "Enterprise & Tribune," published weekly from 1887-1900, and afterward became the "Grand Rapids Tribune."] On 03 November 1853 Mr. [E. B.] ROSSIER was married to Miss Caroline MENNET, of St. Louis [St. Louis County, Missouri]. They [E. B. and Caroline (MENNET) ROSSIER] have four children: Celia, now Mrs. Frank GARRISON; Alfred; Edmond; and Emiele [Emile?]. Mr. ROSSIER was chairman of Board of Supervisors for 1877 and 1878; has been Postmaster at Centralia about ten years, and City Clerk. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
