WI BIO - Winnebago Co - SCHWALENK, Louis History of Northern Wisconsin. Chicago: Western Historical, 1881, v II, p 1163 Louis SCHWALENK, paints and oils [Oshkosh, Winnebago County, Wisconsin], was born 15 December 1824 in Leipsic, Prussia. He came to the United States in 1850, located in Winnebago County, and engaged in farming. He came to Oshkosh in the fall of 1853, and in 1854 commenced the saloon and grocery business. Mr. SCHWALENK was for a time brewing in the county, but lost his building by fire in 1864. He was in the saloon and grocery business off and on for about twenty-two years. On 07 March 1850 in Germany he [Louis SCHWALENK] was married to Miss Rosina MEISENER. They [Louis and Rosina (MEISENER) SCHWALENK] have two children living: (1) Alvina, now Mrs. E. BEIGLER; and (2) Emma. Mr. SCHWALENK commenced his present business [paints and oils] in 1875, and carries a stock of about $3,000. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
