Chicago: Western Historical, 1881, v II, p 1178 George SCHMID, dealer in and manufacturer of cigars, Cedar Street [Neenah, Winnebago County, Wisconsin], who also deals in fruits, confectionery, smoker's articles, and keeps a restaurant, bakery, and confectionery on Wisconsin Avenue, was born 06 May 1833 in Germany. He emigrated to America in 1847, coming with an uncle, and located near Milwaukee [Milwaukee County, Wisconsin], and lived there nearly all of the time until 1857. Mr. SCHMID then went to Washington County [Wisconsin] and farmed until 1865; then to Oshkosh [Winnebago County, Wisconsin] and worked at carpenter work until 1874. He then came to Neenah, Wisconsin, where he began his present business, and in 1877 began the manufacture of cigars. He manufactures 150,000 per year, and employs five hands. In 1858 in Washington County [Wisconsin] he [George SCHMID] was married to Miss Henrietta RAPP, who was born in West Point [Orange County], New York.
