SCHLOERB, of the firm of Metz & Schloerb, tanners and leather dealers in all grades, was born 03 June 1821 in Germany. He emigrated to America in 1848, and located at Cleveland [Cuyahoga County], Ohio. He worked there one year in a tannery, having learned his trade in Germany. He then went to Racine, Wisconsin, and followed his trade one year. Mr. SCHLOERB then came to Oshkosh [Winnebago County], Wisconsin, and immediately engaged in the tannery business alone until 1859, after which he went in company as above noted [with August METZ; see also his biography]. In 1850 in Racine [Racine County, Wisconsin] he [George C. SCHLOERB] was married to Miss Wilhelmina STRANGMAN, who was born in Germany. They [George C. and Wilhelmina (STRANGMAN) SCHLOERB] have two children: (1) Amelia, who married Richard GUENTHER, the present member of Congress from this district; and (2) Otto E.
