RUSH, attorney and counselor at law, Winneconne [Winneconne Township, Winnebago County], Wisconsin, was born 16 March 1825 in Cass County, Michigan [then still part of Michigan Territory, the State of Michigan being created 26 January 1837], and first settled in Winneconne in December 1847 and taught school three years. [In 1847 Winnebago County was still part of the Territory of Wisconsin, the State of Wisconsin created the following year, 29 May 1848.] J. D. RUSH was also connected with the lumber and logging business up to 1868, after which he engaged in the real estate [p 1188] and law business, and is at present making the latter more of a specialty. In the winter of 1853 in Waupaca County [Wisconsin], J. D. RUSH was married to Miss Eliza J. EDWARDS, who was born 23 August 1844 in Bedford County, Pennsylvania. Her parents came from Ohio in 1849 and settled in Winneconne [Winnebago County, Wisconsin]. They [J. D. and Eliza J. (EDWARDS) RUSH] have two children: (1) Mary Ella, now married to Mr. Jerome W. BARNUM, of Winneconne; and (2) Arthur D. RUSH, now engaged in freighting from Deadwood to Ft. Pierre, Dakota Territory [now Deadwood, Lawrence County (created 1875), and Ft. Pierre, Stanley County (created 1873), South Dakota, the State created in 1889]. Mr. RUSH is a member of the Masonic Fraternity No. 186 of his village [Winneconne]. Mr. J. D. RUSH was a member of the Wisconsin Legislature in 1859, has been Town Clerk several years, and also Chairman of his town [Winneconne] five or six years. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
