RIPSOM, carriage maker in Parsons & Goodfellow's Carriage Works, was born 01 December 1835 in Clarkson, Monroe County, New York. [Possibly related to Joseph B. RIPSOM are Mr. and Mrs. Henry RIPSOM, who are buried in the West Clarkson Cemetery in Clarkson, Monroe County, New York. Henry RIPSOM died 29 June 1850 at the age of seventy-six years, and was survived by his wife, Abigail, until 13 April 1863, when she died at the age of eighty-one years.] He [Joseph B. RIPSOM] lived in New York until 1863 [note this is the same year that Mrs. Abigail RIPSOM died], following his trade, then went to Marshall, Dane County, Wisconsin, and followed his present business on his own account about three years. Mr. RIPSOM then returned to New York in 1870 and lived there until April 1880, engaged in teaching. He then came to Oshkosh [Winnebago County], Wisconsin, and engaged as above stated. On 10 October 1861 in Rochester [County], New York, Mr. [Joseph B.] RIPSOM was married to Miss Abigail LAWTON, who was born in [p 1162] Rochester [Monroe County], New York. By this union they [Joseph B. and Abigail (LAWTON) RIPLEY] had four children: (1) Frank H., now in Nebraska; (2) Lydia P.; (3) William L.; and (4) Josephine C. Mrs. [Joseph B.] RIPSOM [Abigail (LAWTON) RIPSOM] died in the fall of 1876 in Chenango County, New York. On 10 November 1878 Mr. [Joseph B.] RIPSOM again married, to Miss Mollie A. DEAN, who was born in Niagara County, New York. They [Joseph B. and Mollie A. (DEAN) RIPSOM] have one son, Harry R. [The Social Security Death Index lists a Harry RIPSOM, born 09 February 1880, who died in July 1980 in Waupaca County, Wisconsin.] Mr. [Joseph B.] RIPSOM was engaged in teaching prior to 1862, and studied law in the law office of Norton & Bowman, of Brockport [Monroe County], New York, and was admitted to the bar in 1877. During the time between 1862 and 1877, Mr. RIPSOM spent his time in Dane County, Wisconsin, and was admitted to the bar of the legal profession in Oshkosh [Winnebago County, Wisconsin] in November 1880.
