Windsor PERKINS, Marsh Olin Men of Vermont: Illustrated Biographical History of Vermonters & Sons of Vermont. Ullery. Brattleboro: Transcript Publishing Company, 1894, pp 306-307 Marsh Olin PERKINS, of Windsor [Windsor County, Vermont], was born 07 February 1849 in Rutland [Rutland County, Vermont], son of Henry Olin and Mary Eloise (GIDDINGS) PERKINS. His early education, including a college preparatory course, was obtained in the public schools of Rutland. He entered Middlebury College and graduated in the class of 1870. While still pursuing his studies he made his first essay as an instructor, and taught at Bridgeport [Addison County], Hydeville, and Walllingford [both in Rutland County]. He was made principal of the South Woodstock Academy [Windsor County] in 1870. The following year he was elected to a similar position in the Windsor high school, which he occupied until 1880, when he became editor of the "Vermont Journal." Republican; has held many offices of trust and responsibility; school director continuously from 1881 of both the town and village of Windsor; represented the town in the legislature 1882 and 1884; four years after was chosen a senator for Windsor County; in 1888 appointed by Gov. DILLINGHAM a member his staff with the rank of colonel. In Masonic circles Col. PERKINS has been especially prominent; has been the presiding officer of all the bodies of the order in Windsor; has most creditably filled a similar position in the Grand Lodge, Grand Chapter and Grand Commandery of the state; in 1884 was made an honorary member of the Supreme Council Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, U. S. A.; in 1891 elected an active member of the same and deputy for Vermont. On 31 December 1878 he [Marsh Olin PERKINS] married Clara Alice, daughter of Lyman J. and Abbie (LOCKE) McINDOE.
