Windsor PEASE, Allen Luther Men of Vermont: Illustrated Biographical History of Vermonters & Sons of Vermont. Ullery. Brattleboro: Transcript Publishing Company, 1894, pp 302-303 (portrait p 302) Allen Luther PEASE, of Hartford [Vermont], was born 08 September 1843 in Hartford [Windsor County, Vermont], son of Luther and Harriet (CONE) PEASE. His father [Luther PEASE] was a successful and enterprising business man in Hartford [Vermont], in whose public affairs he was always prominent. Allen Luther PEASE passed through the customary course of education in the common schools and then received a higher grade of instruction in Kimball Union Academy, of Meriden [Sullivan County], New Hampshire. Shortly after arriving at man's estate, he emigrated to Kansas and there engaged in mercantile pursuits, being an active participant in the stirring scenes of that period. After remaining six years, he returned to Hartford and became a member of the firm of L. Pease & Son, dealers in hardware and agricultural implements. This business he has successfully conducted for twenty-three years, during the last seventeen of which he has been sole proprietor. Mr. PEASE has also been largely interested in real estate and has erected many buildings, notably the Pease Hotel. He has been a director of the White River Savings Bank, and was one of the incorporators of the Capital Savings Bank and Trust Company, of Montpelier. Republican; sent to the Legislature in 1884, where he served on the committee on corporations. In 1890 chosen senator from Windsor County, and in this branch of the Legislature was chairman of the state prison committee and a member of that on claims. Held the appointment of postmaster from 1881 to 1884. Member of the Masonic fraternity, in which he has taken a deep interest for thirty years; during this time has passed through the various bodies of the craft, until he has attained the thirty-second degree. At the present time is master in Hartford Lodge No. 19, member of Windsor Chapter No. 6, Royal Arch Masons; Windsor Council No. 8, Royal and Select Masons; and Vermont Commandery No. 4, Knights Templar.
