Dr. John Stebbins and Elmina (BENNETT) LEE. His father was a native of Vernon [Windham County, Vermont]; graduate of Amherst College, 1845, and held various positions as clergyman and educator in Vermont before becoming President of St. Lawrence University in 1859. The subject was educated in public schools of Canton, New York; graduated St. Lawrence University A. B., 1878, A. M., 1881; Ph. D., Johns Hopkins University, 1886; post graduate study, specializing in physiology, University of Leipzig, Germany, under Ludwig, 1885-1886. Instructor in biology, St. Lawrence University, 1886-1887; instructor in physiology and histology, Bryn Mawr College, 1887-1888; associate same, 1888-1891; demonstrator physiology, Columbia University, 1891-1895; adjunct professor physiology, 1893-1904; present title, Dalton professor of physiology, and director of department of physiology.
