A. secretary, White River Junction [Windsor County, Vermont], was born 20 July 1881 at Pawling [Dutchess County], New York, son of John H. and Mittie A. (WAITE) HURD. Educated at Danby public schools [Rutland County, Vermont], under private tutors, and at Silver Bay summer school. Was examined and recommended for deacon's orders in the Methodist Church, and licensed to preach in 1900. Was general secretary Derby [Essex County, Vermont] and Shelton [Fairfield County], Connecticut, Y. M. C. A., 1897-1898; assistant secretary of the Bridgeport [Fairfield County], Connecticut Y. M. C. A., 1899-1901; general secretary, Claremont [Sullivan County], New Hampshire 1902-1903; special secretary Brooklyn (New York) Navel Y. M C. A., 1903-1906; and county Y. M. C. A. secretary, Windsor County, Vermont, 1906 to date. Independent Republican. Member of the Association of Employed Officers' Society. In 1911 inaugurated agricultural extension work for boys in Windsor County; a Vermont Get-together dinner, with Col. Theodore ROOSEVELT as special guest, 07 June 1911; the first state corn show, November 1911; state fair public service work, 1908 to date; and annual county play festivals.
