Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, pp 225-226 Adin Marshall HOUGHTON, merchant, Springfield [Windsor County, Vermont], was born 13 September 1885 at Williamsville [Windham County, Vermont], son of George Alvin and Frances (IMOGENE) Houghton. Educated in the public schools, by private tutor, and took a special course at Goddard Seminary, Barre [Washington County, Vermont]. Was in the employ of James GILBERT, Williamsville and Townshend [both in Windham County, Vermont], for about three years. In 1905 was employed with Houghton & Simonds, dry goods, Brattleboro [Windham County, Vermont]. Since 1907 has had the management of a branch store of that firm in Springfield. In 1904 Mr. HOUGHTON enlisted in Company I, Vermont Regiment, his enlistment expiring in 1907. Was in war maneuvers at Mt. Gretna, Pennsylvania, in 1906; at Manassas, Virginia, in 1905; and at Fort Ethan Allen, near Burlington, in 1907. Republican. Baptist. Member of St. John's Lodge No. 25, Free & Accepted Masons; Skitchewaug Chapter No. 25, Royal Arch Masons; and Springfield Council No. 18, Royal & Select Masons.
