Brattleboro: Transcript Publishing Company, 1894, p 155 Daniel Oscar GILL, of Springfield [Windsor County, Vermont], was born 15 August 1837 at Hartland [Windsor County, Vermont], son of Charles and Sophia (HEALEY) GILL. When Daniel was three years old he was adopted by his uncle, Daniel A. GILL, and educated in the public schools of Springfield and at Kimball Union Academy at Meriden [Sullivan County], New Hampshire. Mr. [Daniel Oscar] GILL was bred a farmer, and has remained a farmer during a long and useful life. He now owns and superintends several estates. On one of these his father [Charles GILL] was born and lived eighty-nine years. During the last five years Mr. [Daniel Oscar] GILL has resided in Springfield, where he has some important interests, and is a partner in the firm of Noyes & Gill; is also a stockholder and director in the Jones & Lamson Machine Company, of Springfield; and has often been called upon to settle estates and act as guardian, all of which trusts he has ably and faithfully discharged. Republican; has been called continuously for thirty years to some town office; has been a justice of the peace for nearly a quarter of a century; and in 1886 represented Springfield in the House and was a member of the committee on railroads. Is affiliated with only one secret society, the Springfield Grange, Patrons of Husbandry. On 27 January 1864 Mr. [Daniel Oscar] GILL was married to Helen C., daughter of Captain John and Elizabeth (CLOUGH) WESTGATE, of Plainfield [Sullivan County], New Hampshire; she [Helen C. GILL] died within two years of their marriage. He [Daniel Oscar GILL] contracted a second marriage with Miss Jennie L., daughter of Rev. George D. and Fanny (WHITE) BUTTERFIELD, of Monticello [Jones County], Iowa; two children have blessed their union: Frank D., and Fred Butterfield. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
