Burlington: Ullery Pub Co, 1912, p 178 Merritt Otis EDDY, physician, Jericho [probably Jericho, Windsor County, Vermont, but could be Jericho, Chittenden County, Vermont], was born at Townshend [Windham County, Vermont], 26 February 1877, son of Willard H. and Mary Jane (LAKIN) EDDY.* Educated in the public schools of Townshend; graduated from Leland and Gray Seminary in 1896; received degree of M. D. from Tufts College medical school, Boston [Suffolk County], Massachusetts, in 1905. Was assistant medical director of the Young Men's Christian Union, Boston, Massachusetts, from 1904-1905; practiced his profession in Readsboro [Bennington County, Vermont] for five years; removed to Jericho in 1911, and purchased the practice of Dr. H. D. HOPKINS. Dr. EDDY is medical examiner for six insurance companies. Republican; has held several minor town offices. Member of the First Congregational Church, Jericho. Member American Medical Association; Northern Berkshire Medical Society, Massachusetts; Blazing Star Lodge No. 23, Free & Accepted Masons, Townshend; and Mansfield Grange No. 441, of Jericho. In 1904 he [Dr. Merritt Otis EDDY] married [Miss?] Mildred Dane HOPPER of Wakefield [Middlesex County], Massachusetts. They have two children, Alice G. and Richard H. [Full name of the father of Merritt Otis EDDY was Willard Harrison EDDY. His family was enumerated in the 1880 Census of Townshend, Windham, Vermont: Willard H. EDDY, farmer, age forty-five, born in Vermont, from his census age about 1835, to parents also born in Vermont; his wife, Mary J., age forty-three, born in Vermont, about 1837, to a father born in New Hampshire and mother born in Vermont; Alice A., age fifteen, born in Vermont about 1865; Milton H., age ten, born in Vermont about 1870; and Merritt O., age three, born in Vermont about 1877. Also enumerated in the 1880 Vermont Census, in Middlebury, Addison County, is the family of Dr. Merritt H. EDDY, whose relationship to the EDDY in the above biography is unknown to submitter, who is not researching this family.
