Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 166 Fred Ladd DAVIS, farmer and state cattle commissioner, Hartford [Windsor County, Vermont], was born 02 February 1861 at Norwich [Windsor County, Vermont], son of Reuben and Minerva (MAXHAM) DAVIS. Educated in the public schools of Norwich. Engaged in farming in North Pomfret [Windsor County] prior to 1906; in 1908 sold farm in North Pomfret and moved to Hartford. Republican; was chairman of Republican town committee of Pomfret ten years; represented Pomfret in the Legislature 1900, and was chairman of committee on agriculture; senator from Windsor County 1906, chairman of Senate committee on agriculture, and member of committees on railroads, education, and taxes. Secretary Vermont Dairymen's Association 1899-1910; president since 1910; president Windsor County Agricultural Society 1896-1899. In 1898 he [Fred Ladd DAVIS] married [Miss?] Genevieve F. SNOW of North Pomfret [Windsor County, Vermont]; she died 1906; they had three children: Howard M., Marguerite, and Marion. In 1911 he [Fred Ladd DAVIS] married [Miss?] Jessie F. SEAVER of Norwich [Windsor County, Vermont]. In 1906 he was appointed, by Governor PROCTOR, Vermont commissioner to the Jamestown Exposition; in 1907 appointed general superintendent and secretary Vermont State Fair, an office he still holds; also named member of state board of agriculture, and became secretary; in 1909 appointed state cattle commissioner by Governor PROUTY to fill unexpired term of H. S. WILLSON, deceased; reappointed by Governor MEAD in 1911 for two-year term; is notary public; has held numerous town offices. 32nd degree Mason; member Mt. Sinai Temple of Shriners, Montpelier [Washington County]; member of working team for five years; delegate from his shrine to Louisville, Kentucky 1909; member of Jersey Cattle Club of New York; Vermont Fish and Game League; Vermont Association of Boston; and Iroquois Club of White River Junction [Windsor County].
