Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 166 Fred Carlos DAVIS, lawyer, Springfield [Windsor County, Vermont], was born 29 May 1862 at Reading [Windsor County, Vermont], son of Carlos and Ruth (HAPGOOD) DAVIS. Educated in the public schools, Green Mountain Perkins Academy, and graduated from New Hampshire College of Agriculture and Mechanics' Arts in 1884. Enlisted in the U. S. Signal Corps 03 August 1884; discharged 04 February 1885. Admitted to the Vermont bar in 1891; actively engaged in law practice for six years; drew the charter for the Springfield Electric Railway Company, organized it and looked after its legal work. In 1897 became interested in Cavendish Gorge water power, afterwards organized the Claremont Power Company, and aided in developing the power plant. In 1910 became interested in the Clarendon Power Company [Rutland County], and is one of the active factors in developing that water power. In 1892 Mr. [Fred Carlos] DAVIS married [Miss?] Nellie A. MITCHELL of Weathersfield [Windsor County, Vermont], who died in 1904. In 1908 he [Fred Carlos DAVIS] married [Miss?] Eunice ROUND of Lafayette [Coos County], New Hampshire. In 1910 Mr. DAVIS bought out M. G. DENOREM's fire insurance business; does a general insurance business in connection with his other work. Republican; has been auditor, lister and selectman; represented Springfield in the Legislature from 1904 to 1910. Member of the Congregational Church. Is past grand sachem of Vermont Improved Order of Red Men, and was great representative of Vermont to the Grand Council of the United States Improved Order of Red Men from 1907 to 1910.
