COOLIDGE, of Plymouth [Vermont], was born in 31 March 1845 in Plymouth [Windsor County, Vermont], son of Calvin G. and Sarah A. (BREWER) COOLIDGE. His great grandfather, Capt. John COOLIDGE, a Revolutionary soldier, came from Lancaster [Worcester County], Massachusetts, and settled in Plymouth [Vermont] in 1781. His father was a prominent farmer of that place. John C. COOLIDGE was educated at the common schools and at Black River Academy. Although a farmer, he is well known as a merchant and business man, having been engaged successfully in trade from the age of twenty-three. He was Captain of Company K, Tenth Regiment Vermont State Militia, and has held the usual town offices; has been deputy sheriff and constable almost continually for more than twenty years, and is a director of the Ludlow Savings Bank & Trust Company. Republican; represented Plymouth in the biennial sessions of 1872-1874-1876, serving on the committees on claims and reform school. On 06 May 1868 he [John C. COOLIDGE] was married to Victoria J., daughter of Hiram D. and Abigail (FRANKLIN) MOOR, of Plymouth [Windsor County, Vermont]. One son, J. Calvin, was born to them, and one daughter, Abbie G., who died at the age of fourteen. Mr. COOLIDGE's wife [Abigail] died in 1884, and in 1891 he [John C. COOLIDGE] was married to Carrie A., daughter of George and Marcella L. (MOORE) BROWN, a descendant of Lieut. Bowman BROWN, a soldier of the Revolution. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
