COLBURN, of Springfield [Vermont], was born 06 December 1844 in Springfield [Windsor County, Vermont], son of Joseph W. and Emily (EDGERTON) COLBURN. His grandfather was a soldier of the Revolution, and fought at Bunker Hill and Long Island. His father was a wealthy and prominent resident of Springfield, was senator from Windsor County, and served four years as assistant judge. Robert M. COLBURN was educated in the public schools of Springfield and the academies of Meriden [Sullivan County], New Hampshire, Manchester [Manchester in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, or Manchester in Bennington County Vermont?], and Andover [Essex County], Massachusetts. Reared upon his father's farm, and accustomed to act as his father's foreman and assistant in business, Mr. COLBURN is still largely interested in agricultural pursuits, but is also a good financial and business man, and therefore has been called upon to fill several important positions, among them district and town offices. Belonging to the Republican party, he was elected to represent the town in 1880. Is a member of the Vermont Historical Society, and also of the Sons of the American Revolution. On 23 December 1884 he [Robert M. COLBURN] married Sarah E., daughter of Luther and Eunice (PRESTON) WHEATLEY, of Brookfield [Orange County Vermont]. They have two children: Frank W., and Alice Ada.
