Brattleboro: Transcript Publishing Company, 1894, p 72 Ripley CLARK, of Windsor [Windsor County, Vermont], was born 23 July 1817 in Strafford [probably Strafford in Strafford County, New Hampshire, but could be Strafford in Orange County, Vermont], son of Eli and Sarah (WARNER) CLARK. His father, Eli CLARK, was from Boscawen [Merrimack County], New Hampshire, and a soldier in the War of 1812. Ripley CLARK received his elementary education in the district schools of Stratford [Coos County, New Hampshire], at Thetford Academy [Orange County], and the New England Seminary at Windsor [Vermont]. He studied medicine with Dr. PHELPS of Windsor [Vermont], and graduated from the medical school of Dartmouth College in 1846. Commencing in Reading [Windsor County, Vermont], Dr. CLARK subsequently practiced his profession in Illinois, and later at White River Junction [Windsor County, Vermont]. [Also residents of Reading, Windsor County, Vermont, were Rev. Ira CLARK and Frank H. CLARK. Relationship of Ira, Frank H., and Ripley, if any, unknown to submitter.] In 1861 he settled at Windsor, where he built up a large practice. Developing bronchial troubles from the severity of our winters, he was obliged to seek a change of climate, and for the last dozen years has resided in Florida during the winter. Republican. Cast his first presidential vote for William H. and his last for Benjamin HARRISON. Averse to public office, he has confined himself to the duties of his profession, but in 1880 was elected to the Legislature from Windsor. For twenty years he was the medical director of the state's prison. On 09 August 1848 he [Dr. Ripley CLARK] married Mary Ann [born 21 January 1821], daughter of Isaiah and Abigail (TOPLIFF) RAYMOND, of Bridgewater [Windsor County, Vermont].
