Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 145 John Asa CHEDEL, merchant and farmer, Stockbridge [Windsor County, Vermont], was born 30 May 1848 at Pomfret [Windsor County, Vermont], son of John and Hannah. (PERRY) CHEDEL. He was educated in the public schools of Pomfret, and at the Vermont State Normal School at Randolph [Orange County, Vermont]. Taught school in Vermont and Illinois for several terms from 1868 to 1871. He carried on farming at Pomfret from 1872 to 1881. In 1881 moved to Gaysville in Stockbridge, and entered the mercantile business in which he is now engaged. Republican; represented Stockbridge in the Legislature 1904 and 1906; superintendent of schools three years in Pomfret; has been town clerk and treasurer of Stockbridge continuously since 1887. Member of the Christian Church. Past noble grand and past district deputy grand master of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows; is a member of the Grange; has been master of subordinate and Pomona Granges. In 1873 Mr. [John Asa] CHEDEL married [Miss?] N. Jennie BROOKS of Stockbridge. They have three daughters: (1) Maud E., Mrs. G. S. HODGKINS; (2) Annie L., Mrs. H. F. WALDO; and (3) Alice K.
