Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 140 George Byron CARPENTER, banker, White River Junction [Windsor County, Vermont], was born 06 July 1888 in Hebron [Washington County], New York, son of Byron W. and Hannah (SMITH) CARPENTER. Educated at West Pawlet [Rutland County, Vermont] graded schools, and Albany [New York] Business College. At the age of fourteen was engaged in a slate quarry in West Pawlet. After graduating from business college was employed by the Delaware and Hudson Company; the Vermont Marble Company, Proctor [Rutland County]; the Howard Drug Company, White River Junction; and the Granville National Bank of Granville [Washington County], New York. Returned to White River Junction and became assistant cashier of the Hartford National Bank, later being made cashier, which position he still holds. Republican. An attendant of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Member of United Brethren Lodge No. 21, White River Junction; the Modern Woodmen of America; Benevolent Protective Order of Elks; and the Iroquois Club of White River Junction.
