Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 113-14 William BATCHELDER, lawyer, White River Junction [Windsor County, Vermont], was born 14 September 1844 in Westminster [Windham County, Vermont], son of Rev. Calvin Reddington and Frances (ABBOTT) BATCHELDER. Received early education with private tutors, including his father; later graduating from Burr and Burton Seminary at Manchester [Bennington County, Vermont], and studied law with Hon. Augustus P. HUNTON of Bethel [Windsor County, Vermont]. Admitted to the Vermont Bar 1873, locating the same year in Windsor; practiced in partnership with Hon. J. B. FARNSWORTH, and later formed a partnership with Hon. James N. EDMINSTER. Moved to White River Junction [Windsor County, Vermont] in 1893, and has practiced there since. In 1876 he [William BATCHELDER] married Julia Elizabeth KENNEDY of Langdon [Sullivan County], New Hampshire; they had three children, Charles, Agnes Frances (deceased), and Anna Maria. Mr. BATCHELDER is a Republican. He was elected states attorney in 1886, holding that office two years. He is one of the oldest and most widely known lawyers now in active practice in Vermont courts. He has been engaged in many of the most important litigations ever carried on in Vermont, and has appeared in some famous trials in Massachusetts. In religious belief he is an Episcopalian.
