Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 197 John GALVIN, late of Brattleboro [Windham County, Vermont], was born 15 August 1854 in County Cork, Ireland, son of Dennis and Joanna (DRISCOLL) GALVIN. Educated in the public schools of Monkton [Addison County, Vermont]; served an apprenticeship in tinsmithing and plumbing with George BARNUM, Richmond [Chittenden County, Vermont], 1874-1877; commenced business in Middlebury [Addison County, Vermont], forming a partnership with Judge HYDE; moved to Brattleboro in 1880; secured employment with E. H. WOOD; in partnership with P. K. WHITE one year; later conducted business alone. Assistant chief engineer Brattleboro fire department, 1888-1893; chairman insurance committee Brattleboro Board of Trade. Democrat; member board of bailiffs, 1894, 1896, 1903, 1906, chairman of board last two years; member of special committee to acquire municipal water system, 1906; town auditor 1891-1897; selectman 1909-1912, and chairman of the board at time of his death. Member of board of trustees of the Austine institution. Member of St. Michael's Catholic Church; member St. Michael's Court No. 574, C. O. F. [Catholic Order of Foresters], and past chief ranger of the order; member executive committee National federation Catholic societies 1901-1905; member Leo Council No. 917, Knights of Columbus. In 1887 he [John GALVIN] married [Miss?] Mary FLANNERY of Richmond [Chittenden County, Vermont]. They had five children: John E., Katherine M., Agnes E., Anna D., and Maysie E.
