Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 188 Edward Joseph FENTON, merchant, Brattleboro, was born 12 December 1872 at East Brattleboro [Windham County, Vermont], son of Patrick John and Mary Elizabeth FENTON. Educated at Brattleboro public schools, and Brattleboro High School, class of 1890. Learned the clothing business with J. J. Fenton & Company, Bellows Falls [Windham County, Vermont], continuing with Pratt, Wright & Company, Brattleboro, until the death of O. D. EASTABROOK [a variation of ESTABROOK or a text typo?] in 1899, when the business was terminated. He started in a men's and boys' clothing business in Ullery building 1899, with J. J. FENTON of Bellows Falls, under the firm name of E. J. Fenton & Company; he purchased his partner's interest in January 1904, and moved to the present store in the American building in 1907, adding extensive line of women's, men's, boys' and girls' clothing, furnishings, shoes, and small wares.
