Windham DAVIS, Dennison Men of Vermont: Illustrated Biographical History of Vermonters & Sons of Vermont. Ullery. Brattleboro: Transcript Publishing Company, 1894, p 97 (portrait p 97) Dennison DAVIS, of Putney [Windham County, Vermont], was born 03 May 1819 in Putney, son of Alanson and Experience (ORVIS) DAVIS. His early education was obtained at the district schools of his native town and at a select school in Dummerston [Windham County]. Mr. DAVIS spent most of his life on the home farm, branching out into the horse and cattle business as a side issue. For man years past he has devoted a large share of his time to the importation of Canadian horses and the shipment of cattle to the markets at Brighton [Essex County, Vermont]. Mr. DAVIS has in turn held every important town office except town clerk and treasurer, since he attained his majority, and represented his town in the General Assembly of 1880. In 1840 Mr. [Dennison] DAVIS was married to [his first wife] Catherine M., daughter of Zora and Abigail (ORVIS) SCOTT. Mrs. [Catherine] DAVIS died in 1878. There was one son from this union, who died in 1876, leaving two children, a daughter and son: Hattie E., and Dennison P. In 1886 Mr. [Dennison] DAVIS was again married, to [his second wife] Abbie Jane (JOSLIN) EVANS, and now lives on the Lorenzo DAVIS farm, one mile north of Putney Village. Mr. DAVIS has been chosen administrator of many estates and always performed the service with honor to himself and satisfaction to all concerned. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
