Brattleboro: Transcript Publishing Company, 1894, pp 68-69 Charles Sumner CHASE, of Whitingham, was born 13 May 1855 in the town of Whitingham [Windham County, Vermont], son of Abraham and Catherine (READ) CHASE. After having attended the common schools of the town he studied law and stenography, and was admitted to the Windham County bar in September 1880, and has since practiced law at Whitingham. He has served as the official stenographer of the Bennington, Rutland and Windham County courts for the past seventeen years. He took a prominent part in the organization of the Moses Newton Shoe Company, of which he has had the management, and was also connected with the construction of the Deerfield Valley Railroad, and the Hoosac Tunnel & Wilmington Railroad Company, and is a director of and attorney for the same. Republican. Has been town treasurer, justice of the peace and held some minor offices. Is a member of Unity Lodge, Free & Accepted Masons, of Jacksonville [Windham County]. On 19 January 1881 he [Charles Sumner CHASE] married Carrie Emily [note the second biography states "Carrie B."], daughter of John Addison and Emily C. BRIGHAM, of Boston [Suffolk County], Massachusetts. Represented Windham County in the Senate, 1906. Member of the Masonic fraternity. In 1881 he [Charles S. CHASE] married [Miss?] Carrie B. ["Carrie Emily" in the first biography] BRIGHAM of Boston [Suffolk County, Massachusetts]. They are the parents of three children: (1) Robert M. [Robert Martin in the first biography], (2) Harrie B.
