George C. AVERILL, banker, Brattleboro [Windham County, Vermont], was born 28 
October 1857 in Thomaston [Litchfield County], Connecticut, son of Rev. James 
and Sylvira (CARPENTER) AVERILL. Graduate of Greenfield [Franklin County], 
Massachusetts, High School, 1873. Clerk and bookkeeper First National Bank, 
Greenfield, Massachusetts; teller First National Bank, Northampton [Hampshire 
County], Massachusetts; teller Vermont National Bank, Brattleboro, 1885; 
cashier 1886; president and director 1896 and since; is treasurer of Windham 
County and of Brattleboro School District No. 2; incorporator Vermont Savings 
Bank and Brattleboro Savings Bank; treasurer and trustee of Brattleboro Home 
for the Aged and Disabled, Brooks Library Building, and Austine Institution; 
trustee Brattleboro Retreat; director and liquidator Brattleboro Gas Light 
Company; director Connecticut Valley Street Railway Company; treasurer and 
liquidator Vermont Live Stock Company, and Fort Worth Improved Realty 
Company; executor and administrator in numerous estates; all corporations 
liquidated have paid in full. Mr. AVERILL is a Republican; a 
Congregationalist; treasurer and chairman of trustees of the Congregational 
Society; a Mason, and an Odd Fellow. In 1881 George C. AVERILL married 
[Miss?] Nellie E. CHUBBUCK of Boston [Suffolk County], Massachusetts. They 
have two children, Margaret C. and Richard C.
