Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 93 George Oscar ABBOTT, merchant of Brattleboro [Windham County, Vermont], was born at Thetford [Orange County, Vermont], 25 March 1851, and was a son of James Munroe and Lovina M. (CROSS) ABBOTT. He was educated at the Thetford public schools. At the age of fifteen years George Oscar ABBOTT learned the mason's trade of his father, continuing with him until 1881; was collector for the Singer Sewing Machine Company in Oxford County, Maine, from 1881-1887; engaged in the meat and provision business at Lebanon [Grafton County], New Hampshire, from 1887 to 1902, meanwhile conducting a wholesale business in White River Junction, Windsor County, Vermont, for two years. In 1902 Mr. ABBOTT went to Brattleboro, Windham County, Vermont, and established his present meat business, taking his son Sherman into partnership in 1907, under firm name of George O. Abbott & Son. In 1873 he [George Oscar ABBOTT] married Viola M. CAMPBELL [a maiden name?] of Sutton, Caledonia County, Vermont. Two children were born to them: Ethel L. (Mrs. Walter J. ACKERMAN) and Sherman Franklin. Mr. [George Oscar] ABBOTT is a Republican, and a member of the Congregational Church. He is also a member of Protection Grange No. 22, Patrons of Husbandry.
