ROWE, Under Sheriff of Waupaca County [Wisconsin], was born 14 February 1831 in Cortland County, New York, and married Kate DODGE [a maiden name?], of Madison County, New York. They [O. M. and Kate ROWE] have six children. Mr. ROWE settled in Weyauwega [Waupaca County], Wisconsin in 1855, and engaged in the harness and saddlery business there until 1864. He [O. H. ROWE] then made a visit East, and, while in Dunkirk [Chautauqua County], New York, enlisted in the 187th New York Volunteer Infantry. He was with the Army of the Potomac, participated in the siege of [p 1087] Petersburg, and served until the war closed. [The Civil War ended in April 1865.] O. H. ROWE then returned to Weyauwega [Waupaca County], where he continued his former business until 1873. He then went to Northport [probably Northport in Waupaca County, Wisconsin, although there is also a Northport in Door County, Wisconsin], and while there he served four years as Justice of the Peace. In November 1878 he was elected [Waupaca] County Sheriff, and after serving out his term, was appointed to his present position [Under Sheriff]. With his family, O. H. ROWE came to Waupaca [Waupaca County, Wisconsin] in the spring 1879, where he has since resided. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
