REAS, liveryman, Weyauwega [Weyawega Township, Waupaca County, Wisconsin] was born 12 April 1841 in Cortland County, New York, the son of Frederick and Eliza (DOCKSTADER) REAS, who came to Southport [renamed the city of Kenosha 26 January 1850], Wisconsin, in 1851. In 1855 William H. came to Weyauwega and began the livery business, owning the first stable ever started here. In 1861 he began farming. In the spring 1864 he [William H. REAS] enlisted in the 44th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, and was Clerk in the Nashville [Davidson County], Tennessee, Post Office about six months, serving until the war closed, when he was discharged at Madison. [The Civil War ended in April 1865.] In 1866 he resumed the livery business. He has the largest barn and best outfit in Waupaca County, and is the owner of a dozen horses, among them some notably fine teams. He [William H. REAS] married Margaret M. HOWE [a maiden name?] in Weyauwega [Waupaca County, Wisconsin]. They [William and Margaret M. REAS] have four children. Mr. REAS is a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and is now a Deputy Sheriff. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
