Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 251 William Adams LORD, lawyer, Montpelier, was born 28 August 1849 at Montpelier [Washington County, Vermont, son of William Hayes and Harriet Adams (AIKEN) LORD. Educated at Washington Grammar School and Dartmouth College, class of 1869. Admitted to the Vermont bar at the March term of the Washington County court in 1876. Has practiced his profession since that time at Montpelier. Republican; has held various town offices. Was reporter of the Senate in 1874, 1876, and 1888, and represented Montpelier in the state legislature in 1894 and 1896. Was speaker of the House from 1896 to 1898, resigning before the extra session of May 1898. Was national bank examiner from 1898 to 1900. Was senator from Washington County in 1904; chairman of the commission to revise the Vermont statutes from 1904 to 1906, and chairman of the board of editors of the Public Statutes of Vermont from 1906 to 1908. Congregationalist. Member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. In 1883 Mr. [William Adams] LORD married [Mrs.] Lucy A. (REYNOLDS) YOUNG; she died in 1893.
