FERDINAND SPEER, butcher; born in Germany Aug. 2, 1822; came to 
Watertown in September, 1847; he spent about two months in 
Milwaukee prior to coming here; Mr. Speer is the pioneer butcher of this 
place; he has carried on the business ever since he came here.  He was 
married, in Watertown, in December, 1847, to Catharine Ullrich; she 
was born in Germany in December, 1825; they have seven children – 
Amelia, Bertha, Eliza, Paulina, Emma, Laura and Emil; lost one 
daughter, who died at the age of 8 months.
