HAWLEY SMITH,  farmer;  P.O. Fort Atkinson; born in Onondaga Co., 
N.Y., in May, 1806; came to Wisconsin  Sept. 15, 1840; purchased 280 
acres of land of the Government, at $1.25 per acre, on Sec. 27, where he 
still resides.  Married, Feb. 24, 1831, Lida M. Coats, daughter of David 
Coats; they have three children - Andrew, born Jan. 11, 1832; Alvira L., 
April 22, 1844; Mary E., Aug. 11, 1846.  Liberal in religion; Republican.
