Watertown; born Oct. 2, 1838, in Prussia; came to America in June, 1853; located in Watertown Township, Jefferson Co.; worked out at farming, also, at Madison, in a bakery; in 1861, bought twenty acres; in 1863, sold it and bought forty acres; in 1872, bought forty acres more; now owns eighty acres; enlarged the house, built barns, etc.; he has raised all kinds of grain and stock; he was sick with typhoid fever twelve weeks; afterward caught cold and it settled in his back, so that he could not work for a year. Married Miss Augusta Wiegand, of Prussia, Dec. 11, 1863; have six children – Emmie, born Sept. 2, 1864; Minnie, Nov. 12, 1865; Edmond, Sept. 5, 1868; Amalia, Nov. 5, 1872; Phillippina, Feb. 24, 1875; Alma, Nov. 3, 1877.
