WI BIO - Sheboygan Co - WOLFSEN, Ludwig History of Northern Wisconsin. Chicago: Western Historical, 1881, vol II, p 999 Ludwig WOLFSEN, surgeon and dentist, Sheboygan [Sheboygan County, Wisconsin], was born in October 1840 in Germany, and came to America in 1861. That year he enlisted in the 87th New York Infantry, and served in that regiment up to second battle of Bull Run [fought 29 and 30 August 1862], in which the regiment participated, and was afterward in the 40th New York Infantry. In May 1863 he was wounded, thigh fractured, at the battle of Chancellorsville, and was left on the battle field for fourteen days. Ludwig WOLFSEN was discharged in October 1864. Mr. WOLFSEN was at Andover [Essex County], Massachusetts, studied for the ministry, graduated in 1871, and was employed on the missionary staff in Fergus Falls [Otter Tail County], Minnesota. He came to Wisconsin in 1873, and located at Green Lake [Green Lake County]. He was a Congregational clergyman, and had charge of the First Congregational Church for two years. He then had charge of a church at Plymouth [Sheboygan County], Wisconsin for two years, and at same time studied dentistry. He went to Milwaukee [Milwaukee County] and graduated in dentistry with Dr. D. W. PERKINS. He returned to Plymouth, Wisconsin, and preached for some eighteen months. He came to the City of Sheboygan in May 1879, and been practicing dentistry since that time. In 1864 at Searsmont [Waldo County], Maine, Ludwig WOLFSEN married Louisa BROWN [a maiden name?], now deceased. Ludwig and Louisa WOLFSEN had one child, Herbert. On 02 December 1867 at Searsport [also in Waldo County; not a typo for Searsmont], Maine, Ludwig WOLFSEN married again, to Clara M. SMALL [a maiden name?], of that place. Ludwig and Clara M.
