WINTER) Michael WINTER, lumber, Sheboygan, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, was born 1825 in Prussia, and came to America in 1839. He was employed for some years on the canal at Buffalo [Erie County], New York. He came to [the Territory of] Wisconsin in 1842, and located at Milwaukee [Milwaukee County]. He ran saw mills for some twelve years in and about Milwaukee, and in 1843 ran the first gang saw mill run in the State [still part of Wisconsin Territory in 1843]. He was then at Herman, Sheboygan County, engaged in farming, and carried on a general store for some twelve years. He [Michael WINTER] came to Sheboygan County in 1866, and was Sheriff of Sheboygan County for two years, 1866-1867. In 1867 he engaged in the lumber business for three years, with Henry KLUE, and since 1870 Mr. WINTER has been alone. He was also for a short time in the coal business with J. J. SNEYDER [SYNDER?], but quit that business in 1874. He [Michael WINTER] also deals in stucco, cement, etc. He was elected to the Legislature of Wisconsin in 1864, was at one time Alderman of the First Ward [in Sheboygan] for several years, and City Supervisor for one year. In April 1848 he [Michael WINTER] was married at Milwaukee [Milwaukee County, then still in the Territory of] Wisconsin [the State of Wisconsin being created the following month, on 29 May 1848] to Miss Bertha BENTER, who was born in Germany. They [Michael and Bertha (BENTER) WINTER] have five children: William, Arthur, Jesse, Augusta (now Mrs. KOEPSEL), and Louisa. Biography of William M. WINTER (son of Michael) William M. WINTER, manager for Michael WINTER, dealer in lumber, cement and stucco, Sheboygan, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, was born 13 October 1851 in Milwaukee [Milwaukee County], Wisconsin 13 Oct 1851. He came to Sheboygan in 1864, and has been in the employ of his father, M. WINTER [Michael WINTER], since that time. In July 1874 [William M. WINTER] was married at Sheboygan, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, to Minnie RAAB [a maiden name?], who was born in Sheboygan.
