SHAKSHESKY, of Shakshesky & Friedel, merchants, Rome; born in Bridgeport, Conn., March 17, 1854; spent four years of his life at Germania, Penn., where he attained the rudiments of his English and German education; came to Rome and attended school until he was 14; then learned the business of cigar-making in Milwaukee and spent one year in Georgia; returning to Rome, he attended school until he was 17, then went to Chicago and was in a store five years; opened business for himself in Rome in 1878, where, with his partner, he is carrying a large stock of dry-goods, groceries, hardware, paints and oils, crockery, hats and caps, boots and shoes, tinware of their own manufacture, sewing- machines, patent medicines, notions, etc. Mr. S. is independent in politics, liberal in religion and is a member of Rome Lodge, I.O.O.F.
