Rome; born in Oneida Co., N.Y., May 13, 1833; came to Wisconsin with his parents in 1843, via Lake Erie to Detroit, and across the country to Jefferson Co., where he has since lived. As one of the first settlers, he saw many of the rugged experiences of those days. Mr. Sears settled on the farm he now owns of eighty acres in 1848. Married Miss Catherine Bonheimmer in 1857; they have five children – Rhoda A., Lottie, Nellie, Clara and Bertha. Mr. Sears is a Republican, and a member of Rome Lodge, No. 279, I.O.O.F.; is liberal in his religious views. He enlisted in November, 1863, in the 1st Wis. Heavy Artillery, and was stationed at Alexandria, Va., till the close of the war, doing garrison duty; with the rank of Corporal was discharged with his regiment Aug. 31, 1865.
