RUTLEDGE, Register of Deeds, Jefferson; came to Ixonia, Jefferson Co., in 1848; took up land from State Government and farmed it for some time, then engaged in a general merchandise trade till elected Register of Deeds in 1876, in which office he is now serving for the second term; he held the office of Town Superintendent of Schools about eight years, and was Town Clerk eight years. He is a member of St. Bernard’s congregation of Watertown. His father, Patrick, died in Ixonia in 1851, and his mother, Mary, died in 1875. Mr. D. Rutledge had five children – Mary, born Feb. 22, 1869, died in March, 1871; Catharine, born Sept. 10, 1871; Thomas, Dec. 18, 1873; Mary Jane, April 15, 1876, and Anastatia, March 11, 1879.
