Brattleboro: Transcript Publishing Company, 1894, p 253 Hiram Levi MANCHESTER, of Pawlet [Rutland County, Vermont], was born 28 December 1855 in Hampton [Washington County], New York, son of Levi W. and Eveline (SHAW) MANCHESTER. Attended the common schools until the age of seventeen, and for a year pursued his studies at Castleton Seminary [Rutland County]. Commenced his medical education in Burlington [Chittenden County, Vermont], and received his diploma from the University of the City of New York, from which he graduated on 18 February 1879. Began the pursuit of his profession in Fair Haven [Rutland County, Vermont] with Dr. T. E. WAKEFIELD, but after three months opened an office in Pawlet, in June 1879, where he has since remained and built up a large practice. Republican; his professional duties have n0 allowed him to mingle much in political affairs. Member of Republican county committee; chairman, Republican town committee, Pawlet; secretary, Morning Flower Lodge, Free & Accepted Masons; has regularly passed the chair in the same body; member of chapter Royal Arch Masons, and council Royal & Select Masons, at Poultney, as well as a Sir Knight of Killington Commander, Knights Templar, of Rutland. Congregationalist; is clerk and treasurer of the church of that denomination in his place of residence. On 08 July 1879 at Whitehall [Washington County], New York, he [Hiram Levi MANCHESTER] married Flora A., daughter of Harry and Annis (BENJAMIN) BARTHOLOMEW.
