At the age of twenty-one, Mr. HUNTER, who had adopted journalism as his profession, was made business manager of the "Rutland Daily Review," and in the following year was employed as editorial writer on the "Plattsburg Telegram" [Plattsburg, Clinton County, New York], afterwards founding the "Clipper" at Fort Ann [Washington County, New York]. In 1886 he was elected a member of the Republican county committee of Washington County, New York, and with four others composed the executive board of that committee. He returned to his native state [Vermont] in 1887, and for the last four years has filled the position of editor and manager of the "Vermont Record." Twice he was elected a delegate to the Republican state convention of Vermont; was a delegate to the press congress of the World's Fair; was elected justice of the peace for two successive terms, being nominated on the tickets of the Republican, Democratic, and Labor parties, the last named of which nominated him for assistant judge in 1890, when his vote was much larger than that of his party. Alida, daughter of Lyman and Marie BROUGHTON,* of Fort Ann [Washington County], New York. Of this union there have been three children: Gertrude, Anna, and Frances M. [* In the 1880 census of Fort Ann, Washington County, New York, is the family of Lyman and Marie BROUGHTON, which includes a daughter, Alida, age twelve, thus born about 1868. The original text has "Lyman and Marie (BROUGHTON)" with no other surname following it. This has been changed by the submitter to "Lyman and Marie BROGHTON" in the transcription based on the census evidence.] Submitted by Cathy Kubly
