Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 194 George Ferdinand FORTIER, clergyman, Rutland [Rutland County, Vermont], was born 19 May 1874 at Somerville [Middlesex County], Massachusetts, son of Damase and Ruth (FORREST) FORTIER. Educated in the public schools; at Tufts College; and at Crane Theological School. Mr. FORTIER held parishes at Pigeon Cove [Essex County], Massachusetts; Bethel [Windsor County, Vermont], St. Albans [Franklin County, Vermont], Northfield [Washington County, Vermont], and Rutland. He engaged in newspaper work and social settlement work previous to his ordination to the ministry in 1897. Democrat; has been the candidate of that party for various offices. Member of the school board at Pigeon Cove, Massachusetts, and at Bethel. Universalist; secretary and superintendent of the Universalist Congregation of Vermont and the Province of Quebec. Member of the Masonic order; Knights of Pythias; Independent Order of Odd Fellows; and Patrons of Husbandry. In 1909 Mr. [George Ferdinand] FORTIER married [Miss?] Anna Mildred HAMILTON of St. Albans [Franklin County, Vermont]; they have one daughter, Mildred Farrar. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
