Educated in the public schools. At the age of twelve began business life as quarryman in Poultney; in 1902 took up insurance work as local agent Metropolitan Life Insurance Company; in 1903 assistant superintendent Metropolitan Company at Rutland, continuing two and a half years, when he returned to Poultney and engaged in general insurance for himself, continuing to date. Republican; justice of the peace; deputy sheriff of Rutland County since 1910. Methodist. Member Center Lodge No. 34, Free & Accepted Masons, of Rutland; past grand of Netis Lodge No. 25, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of Poultney, and member financial committee of the Grand Lodge of Vermont; Mystic Encampment No. 16; and the Order of Knights of Pythias.
