Educated at Rutland public schools. Engaged for many years in the hotel business, keeping the Bardwell House in Rutland, retiring in 1900. President of Rutland Savings Bank. Republican. Represented Rutland in the Legislature, 1896; Senator from Rutland County, 1904; mayor, city of Rutland, three terms. Member of the Masonic fraternity; Independent Order of Odd Fellows; Knights of Pythias; Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. In 1874 he [Henry Otis CARPENTER] married [Miss?] Kate E.
