BARRETT, Catholic clergyman, Poultney [Rutland County, Vermont], was born 25 December 1857 at Saratoga [Saratoga County], New York, son of Patrick and Catherine (O'SULLIVAN) BARRETT. He received his early education in the public and parochial schools of Saratoga; later prepared for the priesthood at Manhattan College, New York, and St. Charles College, Ellicott City [Howard County], Maryland; ordained priest 23 December 1882 at the Grand Seminary, Montreal, Province of Quebec. He was for fourteen years engaged in parochial work in the towns of Brandon [Rutland County], Shoreham [Addison County], Orwell [Addison County], Pittsford [Rutland County], Proctor [Rutland County], and Fair Haven [Rutland County]. In 1896 appointed rector of the cathedral parish of the city of Burlington [Chittenden County], succeeding the Very Rev. Thomas LYNCH in that office; in 1911 was transferred to the parish of Poultney [Rutland County], where he is now stationed. Father BARRETT's devotion and fidelity have won him the approval of his superiors, and the sincere affection of the people of the various parishes over which he has presided. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
