He has made nearly all the improvements on this present farm. His father, John RUNYAN, was born in Otsego County [New York], and came to Richland County [Wisconsin] with Levi in 1855. They purchased 160 acres and settled on the west eighty. The father [John RUNYAN] died 24 December 1874 in Buena Vista [Richland County, Wisconsin]. His wife, the mother of the subject of this sketch, died in New York. There were six children of the family [of John RUNYAN and wife] who came to Richland County [Wisconsin], only three of whom are now residents. Mr. [Levi] RUNYAN was married in New York to [his first wife] Maria LANE [a maiden name?], who died in Herkimer County [New York]. They [Levi and Maria RUNYAN] had one child, Alice [Alice M. who died Runyan, 29 July 1939?]. His [Levi RUNYAN's] second wife was [Miss?] Susanna SHONTZ, a native of Pennsylvania, who died [as Susanna RUNYAN?] in 1863 in Crawford County [probably Crawford County in Wisconsin, not Crawford County, in Pennsylvania]. They [Levi and Susanna RUNYAN] also had one child, John S. [died January 1944?]. Mr. [Levi] RUNYAN's farm now contains 80 acres.
