His wife [Mrs. Barbara ROTH] was left with six small children to provide for; she was equal to the emergency, and these children are now all grown. Mrs. [Barbara] ROTH [widow of George F.] has purchased additional land and now has a comfortable home. ["B. On the 1895 plat map, the owner of this 80 acres as well as adjoining land, a total of 200 acres, is Mrs. Barbara ROTH's son-in-law, M. C. COLLINS. When but five years of age his parents [John and Rosanna COLLINS; given in the next paragraph] emigrated to Wisconsin and settled in Sauk County. Here he made his home with his parents until March 1864, when he enlisted [as a Private] in Company A, 37th Wisconsin, and with the regiment joined the Army of the Potomac and participated in a number of engagements, of which we mention the following: the battle of the Wilderness, Spottsylvania, Court House, Cold Harbor, Petersburg (his brigade was the first to make a charge after the mine explosion before Petersburg), Yellow Tavern, Ream's Station, Hatches Run, and Five Forks. He [Cassius M. COLLINS] was [as a Private] discharged in August 1865, and returned home. In 1868 he came to Eagle [Richland County, Wisconsin], and two years later [1870?] purchased his present farm on Section 17. He was married [to Sarah E. ROTH] on 30 December 1871[1873?]. His [Cassius M. COLLINS'] father, John COLLINS, was also a soldier in the Union army. He [John] enlisted in 1862 in the 17th Wisconsin, but was soon after transferred to the 11th Missouri Light Artillery. He [John COLLINS] died while in the service, at Cincinnati [Hamilton County], Ohio, 07 August 1862, while on his way home. He enlisted [as a Private] in 1861 in Company A, 19th Wisconsin, and joined the Army of the Potomac six months later. He was discharged on account of disability and returned home. [The Civil War ended in April 1865.] He [Hugh COLLINS] returned home sick, and died two years later [1867?]. Mrs. [Rosanna] COLLINS [widow of John COLLINS] makes her home with her son, Cassius M. COLLINS, in the town of Eagle [Richland County, Wisconsin]. Biography of Daniel A. ROTH (son of George F.) History of Richland County, Wisconsin. Miner, J. H., ed. Chicago: Western Historical, 1906 DANIEL A. ROTH, a progressive and popular farmer of Eagle Township, was born 22 November 1858 in Eagle Township [Richland County, Wisconsin], where he has maintained his home from the time of his birth, son of George F. and Barbara (LEFFLER) ROTH, the former [George F. ROTH] born 22 November 1818 in Indiana, and the latter [Barbara (LEFFLER) ROTH] born 30 July 1823 in Ohio. They came to Richland County and located in Eagle Township in 1853, the father here securing eighty acres of wild land and instituting the development of the same into a farm. To this work he devoted his attention about a decade, then enlisted in Company I, Nineteenth Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, and died in 1862 while in the service. His widow [Mrs. Barbara (LEFFLER) ROTH] long survived him, continuing a resident of Eagle Township until her death on 04 February 1893. Of the seven children [of George F. and Barbara (LEFFLER) ROTH] only one is deceased. George F. ROTH identified himself with the Republican party at the time of its organization [about 1854], and both he and his wife were members of the United Brethren church. The subject of this sketch [Daniel A. ROTH] passed his boyhood days on the home farm [in Richland County, Wisconsin] and was afforded the advantages of the schools of his native township [Eagle]. He has continued his allegiance to the industry under whose influences he was reared and is now the owner of a well improved homestead of 200 acres, the greater part of which is under cultivation. [The 1895 plat map for Eagle Township, Richland County, Wisconsin, shows land for Daniel Roth, 40.12 adjoining 166.72 acres, on Section 5, called "Rock View."] He has erected good buildings, including a fine barn 80 x 40 feet, built in 1903. In addition to general agriculture he raises high-grade live stock. In politics he supports the principles and policies of the Republican party, and is one of the public-spirited citizens of his native township. On 28 October 1883 Mr. [Daniel A.] ROTH was united in marriage to Miss Rosa RICHARDSON, who was born 11 November 1857 at Black River Falls [Jackson County], Wisconsin, a daughter of John and Lucinda (ROUNDY) RICHARDSON, who came from Maine to Wisconsin in an early day and who were residents of Sauk County at the time of their death. Two of their [John and Lucinda (ROUNDY) RICHARDSON's] four children are living. Mr. and Mrs. ROTH [Daniel and Rosa (RICHARDSON) ROTH] have three children, all at home: (1) Harry Clyde, born 12 February 1885; (2) Katie V., born 20 October 1887; and (3) Wilmer Glenn, born 03 August 1893.
