WI BIO - Richland Co - ROGERS, Salma History of Crawford & Richland Counties, Wisconsin. Springfield: Union, 1884, Part 2, p 1048 Salma ROGERS, a pioneer settler in the town of Forest [in the northwest corner of Richland County, Wisconsin], was born in 1825 in Wyoming County, New York, where his younger days were spent. He obtained his education in the common school, and in his youth learned the joiner's trade. In 1854, in company with Cyrus D. TURNER and Hartwell S. TURNER, he emigrated to the town of Forest. He entered 40 acres of land on Section 19, where he now lives. His place now contains 165 acres. In 1847 Mr. [Salma] ROGERS was united in marriage with [Miss?] Mary J. TURNER. She [Mary J. ROGERS] died 26 January 1848, leaving one child, Mary A., now the wife of George BEWS. They [---- and Mary A. (ROGERS) BEWS] reside at the Black Hills, Dakota [which would include the counties of Fall River, Custer, Pennington, Lawrence, and Meade. Dakota Territory was formed in 1861, and in 1887 divided into two territories, North and South; the State of South Dakota was created in 1889.] In 1849 Mr. [Salma] ROGERS again married, to [Miss?] Harriet M. BROWNELL, who was born in 1828 in Monroe County, New York. Four children have been born to them [to Salma and Harriet M. ROGERS]: (1) Frank E., who married [Miss?] Bell MOODY [the Belle A. ROGERS who died 21 April 1923?], and they have one child, Nellie; (2) Calvin N., who married [Miss?] Elizabeth SYVERSON, and they have one child, Homer; (3) Lilly B.; and (4) Orla A., [Orla Alfred?], who died 03 November 1879. In 1861 Mr. [Salma] ROGERS enlisted in Company I, Twelfth Wisconsin Infantry, and on 30 July 1863 was commissioned Second Lieutenant. He held the office of Town [of Forest] Treasurer in 1865-1866, and has been Justice of the Peace three years. He is now engaged in contracting, building and millwrighting.
